Why We're Doing This
This past September Good Food Jobs and Eco Practicum teamed up to run an epic gathering of good food enthusiasts. The 4-day weekend spawned many ideas about how to actively engage in the good food movement. In our experience, there is no shortage of work to be done. Very often, people in our community are very eager to do two things: 1) Have meaningful experiences where they feel like they are contributing, and 2) meet 'their people' and make friends in the good food community. These 'Good Food Works' will combine a 'community meeting', hosted by a local organization or expert, with an active one-day project to benefit individuals and/or communities.

Public Service Projects
We’re asking you for Public Service Project proposals in your community. Do you run, work with, or frequent an organization or business that needs help to complete a project? Do you have a public service idea that you want to test out? Are you aware of members in your community that could use the help of some able-bodied food enthusiasts?

The sky is the limit, and we want to hear from you.

RULES OF THE GAME
Once we receive the proposals, we will choose those that seem most viable and impactful for further development. We will work with you to bring the proposal to fruition, helping you with the logistics of bringing people together for a day of meaningful public service. You will provide the idea, Eco Practicum + Good Food Jobs will provide the technical support and the people – our role would be to link you up with Good Food Jobs users in your area to help make your project a reality.

As we evaluate these proposals, here is what we are looking for:

Impact. The public service project would ideally be able to be completed within one day, within 4 - 6 hours.
Community building.The project will ideally make use of no fewer than 5 and not many more than 15 people.
Leadership. There must be an independent, on-site project manager (that would be you!)
Feasibility. We hope for projects to be exciting, impact-driven, and realistic. We’re looking for projects that have identified significant nodes within the food system so that a humble intervention can have a meaningful effect. The best projects will be hands-on, fun, and relatively cheap and and easy to pull off. What we offer is strength in numbers and community support.
Partnerships. The most exciting projects are ones that identify a real need in the community and offer some creative way of meeting that need. We know that one afternoon of work can not cure all. This is long-term work that takes time, knowledge, and experience. This means that the projects should be conceived of with a partnering institution in mind (e.g. school, non-profit, community center, business). You may be a representative from that organization, you may have a specific organization in mind, or you may just want to describe the sort of organization that you’re hoping to engage with for this project.
